THRILLS & CHILLS NOT TO MISS
IN THE SHADOW OF FRANKENSTEIN
In the Shadow of..
It goes without saying that Mary Shelley's novel (read here in its entirety) has shaped and shaken the imaginations of writers, filmmakers, and audiences since its 1818 publication. Bringing together top voice talents (Derek Perkins, Simon Vance, Stefan Rudnicki, et al.) with a considerable cross-section of pulp and horror authors (Robert Bloch, Michael Marshall Smith, Lisa Morton, and more), this 24-story collection is a wonderful celebration of all things Frankenstein. Keep the lights on. Reviewed by Brian Price

THE TRESPASSER
The Trespasser
Since Tana French's marvelous Dublin Murder Squad novels have different protagonists, it makes sense that their audio versions are handled by different actors. In the newest entry, Hilda Fay gives a keenly considered performance in the voice of Antoinette Conway, the much-harassed only woman on the Murder Squad. Subtle distinctions among Irish accents play a fascinating part in Fay's performance. Reviewed by Beth Gutcheon

Robert Gottlieb, legendary editor, graceful writer, and world-class balletomane, can add "wonderful narrator" to his resumé. His warm, slightly sanded voice and cheerful delivery make him an absolutely charming audio companion and the best possible performer of his own memoir, since he knows how all the characters speak, plus exactly what the author meant by each sentence. This is a treasure trove for lovers of literary and performing arts in the American century. Reviewed by Beth Gutcheon

It's said that any ensemble cast is only as strong as its weakest member, and in this audio performance, there's not a weak link to be found. Each narrator in the group brings something unique and enjoyable to the production. The Christodora itself, a New York City building whose transitions reflect the city's evolution from the 1980s to the 2020s, is a central character in this fascinating story. Each narrator voices a person whose life pulses within those walls. Reviewed by Leslie Fine
